A pair of elderly career criminals may have ended their old lives before they can start a new one in this streetwise drama. Tommy (Donnie Montemarano) and Mic (Vinnie Argiro) are a pair of aging wiseguys who used to work on the fringes of the New York mob. Now in their mid-sixties, Tommy has just been sprung from prison after spending seven years behind bars, and Mick has offered to put him up at his place -- a room in a seedy Los Angeles flophouse called the Golden Eagle, which is overrun by junkies, streetwalkers, and bums with no where else to go. While Tommy's been in stir, Mick has been living the straight life; he's gotten a legitimate job, quit drinking, stopped doing business with prostitutes, and has saved up enough money that he and his best friend can head to Las Vegas and start new lives with real jobs there. However, Tommy isn't so sure he wants to live quite so clean, especially on his fight night out of the joint. Tommy meets another resident of the Golden Eagle, Amber (Natasha Lyonne), an attractive young woman who happens to be a hooker. Not having been with a woman for seven years, Tommy is eager to retain Amber's services, but Amber is working for Rodan (Vinnie Jones), a brutal and short-tempered pimp. Tommy's treatment of Amber manages to anger Rodan, and now Mick and Tommy have to get away from the pimp if they have any hope of getting to Las Vegas (and out of Los Angeles) alive. A superheroine who proves the old adage that "it's what up front that counts" takes on bad guys and gals in this over-the-top comedy. Chastity Knott (Kitten Natividad) is the owner of a saloon which had been taking a lot of business away from a nearby watering hole run by cranky Al Purplewood (Larry Butler). Purplewood is trying to find a way to drive Knott out of business, but she has problems of her own to deal with when she learns she has breast cancer (no small problem for her). Knott is told that the rare Crockozilla plant has remarkable healing powers and to her surprise it not only cures her cancer, it gives her super powers. Just in time, too, because Purplewood has told the strippers who work at his joint to wipe out Knott once and for all. Transforming herself into the Double-D Avenger, Knott takes on the heavily armed band of exotic dancers (among them Haji, Raven De La Croix, and Sherri Dawn Thomas) and tries to restore order to her community. The Double-D Avenger also features Famous Monsters of Filmland editor Forrest J. Ackerman in a supporting role as a caretaker at a museum. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Famous for his gargantuan anatomy, John Holmes led a bacchanalian high life surrounded by a bevy of beautiful porn starlets and a plethora of drugs. Veteran documentary director Cass Paley tells of the sordid and often bizarre rise and premature fall of Holmes, porn's most famous performer. Starting from his humble upbringing in the back woods of Ohio, the film chronicles Holmes' rise to fame from the notorious porn-noir Johnny Wadd series, to his 27 fan clubs and his reported $1500-a-day salary. Yet Paley is less interested in the sensational aspects of Holmes' debauched life than in exploring his character. Through interviews and clips from four of the most famous of his 2000 movies, a disturbing dark side emerges from his good old boy image. He had an abusive childhood, kept a wife secret from his porn colleagues for 20 years, pimped out his 15-year-old mistress for drug money, was questioned for his connection with a grisly mass murder, and eventually died of complications from AIDS. In the process, Paley paints a raucous portrait of the porn world during its '70s heyday. Wadd: The Life & Times of John C. This trashy German comedy is only for those adventurous few who find humor in the basest bodily functions, graphic violence, and degrading sex. The free-form story is set somewhere in Africa where an unhinged UN general is seen playing S&M games with his athletically handsome, but pea-brained body-building coach. One day his bride, an aging virgin, "miraculously" gives birth to a black child and names him Peter Panne. A deposed, radical bishop who desires to overthrow the Vatican comes around and hails the babe as the Messiah. Simultaneously, the local despot conspires to kill the US president via special rockets powered by burning human sacrifices. The bishop is playing with the child, when the baby gets a marble stuck up its nose. During the resulting surgery, the doctor screws up, leaving the boy horribly disfigured; five years after the surgery, he has but a gaping, mucous spewing slit where his nose should have been. Whenever the lad gets excited, copious amounts of slime come gushing from his face. Naturally, he is a very excitable boy, and unfortunately, his frequently naked mother ends up being his human handkerchief. Still his mother really loves Peter and wholeheartedly believes that he is the true Messiah, so when he grows up she has sex with him and becomes his bride after they crash land in a rocket that destroys the White House. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

At times, Another 48 Hrs. seems less like a sequel to than a parody of the first 48 Hrs., especially when Nick Nolte, repeating his role from the earlier film, begins commenting on the cliched absurdity of the goings on. This time, Nolte risks life, limb and career as he obsessively tries to bring an elusive master criminal known as "The Iceman" to justice. Eddie Murphy, who stole the show in the first 48 Hrs. as the wheeler-dealer convict who becomes Nolte's reluctant partner, is brought into the plotline of the second film when a contract is taken out on his life. The adversarial relationship between Nolte and Murphy, supposedly dissipated by the end of the first film, is revivified in the sequel via a couple of plot devices. Still, Murphy rallies to the occasion, in the process saving Nolte from being thrown off the force. Though not as successful as the first film, Another 48 Hrs. proved that there were still enough Eddie Murphy fans around in 1990 to insure a strong box-office showing. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This low-budget, supernatural, tongue-in-cheek story is about an ancient Egyptian princess out to maintain her immortality. Nefratis (Michelle Bauer) has two problems: her tomb has been desecrated, and she needs some special amulets (now in California) that are used in the rituals of human sacrifice to keep herself alive. After she kills the professor responsible for the sacrilege committed against her tomb, the professor's son David Manners (Richard Alan Hench) and his friend Helen (Susan Stokey) set out to solve the mystery behind the murder. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Stretching out its thin storyline to a full 89 minutes of striptease performances, this erotic film features Kitten Natividad as Betty Bigwuns who is longing for an open spot on a TV series, but whose measurements are not going to fit comfortably onto a TV screen. In desperation, Betty goes to Dr. Buzz Raunchy to see about the latest diet fads, to a psychiatrist named Lucifer Chaser to handle the trauma involved, and to Fosdick's Fat Farm. While Betty is working on her measurements, strippers continue on with the show at the Little Playhouse -- run by a Ms. Little. Comprised of classic teen movie elements scattered like croutons over a salad, this undistinguished high school drama involves several inconsequential stories at once, set in a seven-day period before the beginning of school. Tom Drake (Christopher Penn, Sean's brother) is a high-school wrestler who loves Eileen (Jenny Wright), but she is more than just a little dubious about their relationship. Since her lecherous boss (Rick Moranis) will not leave her alone, men are at a low ebb in her life. Bill Conrad (Eric Stoltz) is a friend of Tom's who has already graduated and who asks him to share his apartment for awhile to help him out financially. Bill then decides to split with his girlfriend Anita (Lea Thompson), who is suddenly too young for his new status as a high-school grad. Miffed at his rejection, Anita starts a liaison with David Curtiss (Hart Bochner), without knowing that David is married and a father. Other than Bill's 15-year-old brother Jim (Ilan Mitchell-Smith), who follows a Vietnam vet around in adulation, the entire focus of the film is on teen love relationships played by twentysomethings from the vantage point of tensomethings, more or less. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

In this standard young teen/older woman sex story, Bobby (Matt Lattanzi) has had trouble with French at school, and sex out of school, and so his rich parents hire a winsome 30-year-old tutor (Caren Kaye) to help him with the first subject, without thinking that she would help him with the second as well. The father (Kevin McCarthy) is not exactly subtle about his interest in the tutor, but the discerning woman prefers his much more sensitive son. A few comic moments with Bobby's friends trying to teach him about sex, and a more respectful treatment of the sexual relationship between the tutor and young teen alleviates some of the otherwise, run-of-the-mill storyline. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Nobody is what they seem to be in this dizzying Russ Meyer feature, and everyone is a suspect. The reclusive Adolf Schwartz (Edward Schaaf) pays for weird pansexual pleasures performed by an interracial group of prostitutes. Later, Schwartz (who bears more than a passing resemblance to a more infamous Adolf) is found murdered in his bath, the victim of a hungry piranha. That same morning, Margo Winchester (Raven de la Croix) is jogging on a mountain pass when she's abducted and raped by a local boy. She defends herself and ends up breaking her assailant's neck, an act that is witnessed by state trooper Homer Johnson (Monty Bane). He offers to falsify his report in return for Margo's abundant body, and she enthusiastically accepts. Margo and Homer shack up in his mountain cabin, and he gets her a job at Alice's Cafe, a small-town greasy spoon run by Alice (Janet Wood) and her husband, Paul (Robert McLane). Suddenly business is booming (thanks to Margo's seductive swagger and Mae West impressions) and the trio decide to open a nightclub. Opening night is a smash, until a drunk lumberjack goes ape after witnessing Margo's sultry dance routine. The resulting fracas ends with an axe in Homer's chest and a wild moonlit chainsaw fight. But who murdered Adolf Schwartz? That mystery is solved in not one, but three epilogues which concern the identities of Eva Braun Jr., an undercover police officer and a closet white supremacist, who all fight to the death with a pistol, a dildo, and kung-fu. The action is explained and commented upon by the buxom, perpetually nude Greek Chorus (Francesca 'Kitten' Natividad), who quotes Shakespeare and attempts to raise the story to the level of classic farce. ~ Fred Beldin, All Movie Guide
