A sexually frustrated Beverly Hills housewife intent on reclaiming her freedom enlists the aid of a random stranger on watching after her young child, only to find her careless actions leading to consequences she never anticipated in director Sian Heder's short-form meditation on neglect and fidelity. To Carolyn (Angela Featherstone), motherhood is a prison. A self-absorbed parent who pays little mind to the needs of her young daughter, Carolyn is strictly focused on the extramarital affair she is about to embark on. Lu (Ashleigh Sumner) is a free-spirited street woman who roams the hallways of the glamorous hotel in search of sustenance. When Carolyn finds Lu eating from a tray just outside of her hotel room door and mistakes the homeless woman for room service, she hastily recruits the famished stranger as a babysitter. Carolyn can't be held down by a child if she ever hopes to make her date, but when Lu notices the potentially damaging effect that the thoughtless mother's narcissism is having on the adorable baby girl, she is soon compelled to protect the child at all costs. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Bernard Rose directed this look at the sordid underside of the film business and one man's attempts to come to terms with his mortality in this fallen world, in a story loosely based on Leo Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Ilyich. Ivan Beckman (Danny Huston), a hot-shot talent agent at the powerful Media Talent Agency, unexpectedly dies, and soon his colleagues are scrambling among themselves over the shards of Ivan's leftover business, with Barry Oaks (Adam Krentzman) eager to take over representation of Don West (Peter Weller), a major star Ivan signed shortly before his death. Everyone assumes that Ivan died of a drug overdose, but as viewers watch his last few days in flashback, they learn that Ivan was diagnosed with a severe case of lung cancer as he was trying to put together a deal with firebrand director Danny McTeague (James Merendino), actress Constanza Vero (Valeria Golino), and West. As the dynamic businessman is forced to confront his mortality, he is dragged into a binge of booze, drugs, and women with West, while he also tries to decide how to confront his family and his girlfriend Charlotte (Lisa Enos) with the grim news about his health. Ivansxtc. (To Live and Die in Hollywood) was shot using digital video equipment and a skeleton crew -- according to Rose, a reaction in part to studio interference over his 1997 adaptation of another Tolstoy work, Anna Karenina. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Former war hero Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) is sentenced to eight years in prison when he accidentally kills a man in a barroom brawl while defending his pregnant wife. When his release comes through, he's eager to see the daughter he's never met. However, Poe's original flight is delayed, so he's put aboard a flight transporting ten of the most dangerous men in the American penal system to a new high-security facility. One of the criminals, Cyrus "The Virus" Grissom (John Malkovich), is a serial killer and insane genius who has hatched a diabolical plot: with the help of several other hoods, including Diamond Dog (Ving Rhames), Johnny 23 (Daniel Trejo), and Garland Greene (Steve Buscemi), Cyrus and his men will hijack the plane and fly to a neutral nation where they can live as free men. Poe finds himself stuck in the middle; he has to find a way to get home, keep himself alive, look after his cellmate Baby-O (Mykelti Williamson), who will die without proper medicine, and try to help the cops on the ground, including agent Vince Larkin (John Cusack).
