John Clark Gable Movies

American actor John Clark Gable was a celebrity while still in the womb. He was the much-awaited son of movie legend Clark Gable and Gable's fifth wife, Kay Spreckels. Gable spent most of the grueling shooting schedule of The Misfits (1960) in eager, almost boyish anticipation of the birth of his first child. But when John Clark Gable came into the world in March of 1961, his father had been dead for four months, the victim of heart failure. Growing up in the shadow of his father, John may have entertained thoughts of a non-showbiz career, but the call of the blood won out. A gangling, ruggedly handsome young man described by some observers as a Kevin Costner look-alike, John Clark Gable did some minor TV work, then appeared in his first film, Bad Jim, in 1990. Appearing in a supporting role as a western bandit, the 29-year-old John Clark Gable showed promise, but little has been seen of him since. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This made-for-television movie tells the story of Margaret Mitchell, the well-known author of Gone With The Wind. Young TV-star-turned-Hollywood-bad-girl Shannon Doherty stars as Pulitzer Prize-winner Mitchell, whose impulses and insecurity inspired her passionate work. John Clark Gable, son of legendary Gone With The Wind star Clark Gable, is also featured in this biopic, which was generally panned by critics for Doherty's portrayal of Mitchell. ~ Bernadette McCallion, Rovi

Veteran Hollywood screenwriter Clyde Ware handled the directing chores in Bad Jim. The film is worth noting as the cinematic debut of John Clark Gable, the son of guess who. Gable, James Brolin, and Richard Roundtree play three soft-hearted bandits who purchase a horse from Billy the Kid. They use the easily recognizable steed to convince their victims that they are members of Billy's gang-thus eliminating the nasty necessity of gunplay. One of the gang members breaks away from the others, taking the horse with him, and pretty soon he's every bit as mean and dangerous as the real Billy. The film's pace may be a bit too measured for some tastes, but the characters are believable and the story has its own peculiar logic. Bad Jim is slightly reminiscent of John Ford's Three Godfathers; both films, in fact, feature Harry Carey Jr. is a supporting role. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
