A team of high-class thieves avenge their mentor's death -- with the help of his own daughter -- in this big-budget remake of the 1969 British caper classic. The Italian Job stars Mark Wahlberg as Charlie, the mastermind of a daring Venice heist overseen by John (Donald Sutherland), a lifelong criminal who plans to retire from the fold with the earnings from his most recent take. Basking in the glow of a job well done at a secluded retreat in the Alps, the thieves -- including the aptly-named Handsome Rob (Jason Statham), tech-geek Lyle (Seth Green), and hearing-impaired quipster Left Ear (Mos Def) -- are ruthlessly double-crossed by one of their own, the taciturn, calculating Steve Frezelli (Edward Norton). Time passes and each member of the group finds himself pursuing other opportunities in the States, until Charlie rallies them together for a revenge-motivated scheme designed to bilk Steve of all his misbegotten earnings. In order to cinch the deal, he even enlists John's reluctant safecracking-prodigy daughter, Stella (Charlize Theron), for an elaborate, incognito Los Angeles heist. But the paranoid Steve proves himself to be one step ahead of them at just about every turn, and Charlie finds that he'll have to make some daring last-minute changes to their plan if the team is to succeed. The Italian Job marked director F. Gary Gray's second 2003 release after the Vin Diesel vehicle A Man Apart. ~ Michael Hastings, Rovi

Sexual hang-ups as discussed during an all-night L.A. party provide the impetus for this lively film. The main character in this outing, which features snippets from the lives of several others, is Andie, a book editor celebrating the publication Michael's new, but rather bland self-help manual "Talking About Sex" with a large party. Andie gets into an argument with her dull boyfriend Doug. Carl is the publisher who wants to add more sparks to Michael's book. He also seeks to spark up his own flagging marriage. Rachel is non-orgasmic and has taking to "re-birthing" meditation to find a substitute. Also included at the party are a sexually frustrated fashion designer in her late thirties, and Andie's neighbor Lou who wants her to get together with his grandson who is not interested in Andie. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Racism is alive and well and living in Beverly Hills, as this slightly comic drama reveals. Kim is a nice Anglo girl who is about to "come out" as a debutante. In her social set, girls simply do not date "minority" people, and when she begins seeing the stunningly handsome Tom Garcia, not only does this scandalize her friends and (more particularly) her mother, but everyone assumes that he is the son of field hands. Kim's mother, in particular, is anxious to make him go away. Assuming that he is simply poor and greedy, she offers him money to give her daughter up. She is astonished to discover that he is a Hispanic rich kid, living at a ritzy address in Bel Air. Furthermore, he is working actively to improve the public perception of Hispanics, and he is understandably insulted on several fronts by this "offer." Thwarted in her attempt, the obsessive socialite mother then conspires with a socially acceptable Anglo boy to do some dirty tricks which will bring daughter Kim back into the fold. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
