Five women from wildly divergent backgrounds find themselves swapping views on feminism, politics, and culture in this talky ensemble drama. Magdalena (Diana Bracho) is the coordinator of Mexico City's Latin American Women's Film Festival, and she's brought together five women to review and rate the year's entries. Joan (Geraldine Chaplin) is a lesbian film writer from New York whose views on the cinema are just as extreme as her position on gender politics. Maruja (Ana Torrent) is a mainstream film producer from Spain. Mariana (Carmen Montejo) is a veteran filmmaker whose career broke new ground for women in the Latin American film industry. Balsher (Carola Reyna) is a political filmmaker exiled from her native land. And Julia (Haydee de Lev) is a woman from Uruguay who has spent nearly a decade and a half in prison. As the women gather to watch a variety of different films made by women, they often find themselves arguing about the issues raised by the films and about how they impact women and society as a whole. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The career of a former Argentine silent movie star is the focus of this drama. The story is set in the 1950's and told in flashback. The story begins as Paolo and his mother move into the cold marble filled home of Ralph de Palma. In the tradition of Rudolph Valentino, Ralph de Palma was a Hollywood star of silent films. Ralph's career crashed with the advent of talkies. Now he runs a funeral parlor in his own country. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Pedro is a low-level cog in a vast advertising agency, constantly being threatened by his demonic female boss. He is given to visualizing the overbearing woman in a variety of appropriate roles. One day, he discovers that he has inherited a fortune so enormous that he could liquidate Argentina's entire foreign debt with it. While it is gratifying to have former bullies attempt to curry favor with him, not much else about having so much money turns out to be fun. In this comedy, filled with local and contemporary (mid-1980s) references which are likely to make sense only to another Argentinian, he not only liquidates his country's foreign debt, but he experiences the disintegration of his personal life under the pressure of his riches before he is assassinated in Europe. However, that's not the end, as he wakes up and his dream threatens to take form in real life. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
