In this animated feature, the few humans who have survived the devastation of the earth by pollution live underground in something called the Rat Dictatorship, ruled over by a president who electronically brainwashes misbehaving members of the population. In the story, a family, led by a grandmother who has had a vision of paradise, seeks to escape their underground prison. Through their persistence and trickery, the clever family (consisting of a drunken uncle, a granny and a brother and sister) eventually win free. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

This entertaining tragi-comedy looks at the contradictions in a nurse's (Kirsten Lehfeldt) personality and how they work against her. Henriette (Lehfeldt) leaves her boyfriend when he makes it clear that he does not want marriage or children, and she transfers her affections to Leowe (Torben Jensen), a surgeon at the hospital where she works. She is leery of showing her true feelings, hiding them by being a little quirky. Leowe is not exactly a perfect companion either and is not interested in marriage. Soon that relationship starts to spell trouble in capital letters, causing Henry to make some radical decisions. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

This partly informative, partly entertaining, one-hour animated cartoon from Jannik Hastrup tells the story of two young whales, sensible and wise Sally (voice of Helle Hertz) and reckless Samson (voice of Jesper Klein). Both whales learn about the natural dangers of the ocean, as well as the threats to their existence from oil spills and nuclear waste. As they are getting older and more experienced, Samson one day decides to go off in search of his ancestor, the famous Moby Dick, known to be living somewhere in a hidden city like the fabled Atlantis. Moby Dick has the secret to the survival of his species, and so it is important that Samson find him and learn this secret before the dangers of the ocean become much worse. This television-style fare is strictly for the moppet set. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Jastrau (Ole Ernst) is an uncompromising individualist with strong ideals. In this drama based on Tom Kristensen's best-selling autobiographical novel, Jastrau is an art critic who is being urged to temper his ferocious opinions by his newspaper, in part because he is stepping on too many toes, politically. This violation of his sense of journalistic ethics, and his sense of being trapped in a bourgeois marriage, lead him to drink. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

This film has sexual situations and occasional full frontal nudity. One of the two men in this Danish film has a ballet-dancer girlfriend whom he is quite fond of, but he is not averse to going to bed with an actress friend while the ballet dancer is on tour. The other fellow has been having a fling with an East German refugee, and though he has her in his bed, he is having a hard time getting her to connect emotionally. It seems she has a yen to return to her home, even though getting there could cost her her life. Her erstwhile boyfriend and his friend both risk life and limb to help her. Curiously, this film has a somewhat happy ending, reportedly due to the insistence of the film's producer. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
