While a dying elderly philosopher recites the words of Agamemnon in glorious sites connected with Greece's ancient history, an archaeologist and his assistant are working a site on a Greek island. They are joined by the archaeologist's daughter, who has a series of romantic adventures while her imperturbable, serious folks calmly go about their work of exhuming the past. She soon has a liaison with an Italian journalist whose interest in her father's work is difficult to countenance until it becomes clear that he could be involved in the lucrative but illegal business of buying and selling antiquities. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

This is a beguiling story about a lovely fairy, her sister-fairies, and the adventures of a young boy whose heart belongs to these winged creatures. The "Enchantress" is said to appear regularly at a nearby spring, and only at night. After the young boy sees her and is captivated, he gets permission from his father to leave home and sets forth to explore haunted castles and find multiple treasures, assisted by the fairies who know about these things. The young boy returns home and even after he grows up and marries, he does not lose interest in looking for the Enchantress one more time. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Greek filmmaker Nikos Koundouras directed this interesting allegory centered on the overthrow of the Ottoman occupation of Crete in 1897 and its impending reunification with the Greek mainland. Marina Vlady stars as a hooker from Marseilles named Rosa Bonaparte who brings 12 young prostitutes to Chania with her and starts a bordello in an old mansion. The bordello becomes something of a hub of international activity, where spies mingle with revolutionaries, businessmen, and soldiers to plot, drink, and discuss the current political climate. Rosa's girls, meanwhile, just go about their business, entertaining the men and trying to remain detached from the swirling turmoil of the outside world. Eleonora Stahtopoulou co-stars with Vassilis Lagos and Aris Retsos. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi
