The cuddly pastel-colored Care Bears are back for a third feature film with their friend Grumpy. This time around, they have persuaded Alice to return with them to Wonderland. There, she must pretend to be a princess who has been kidnapped by the Evil Wizard. While many of the characters from Wonderland (such as the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat) make appearances, so do characters from the Grimm fairy-tales, The Wizard of Oz, and many more fables. To fully appreciate Boy in Blue, it's helpful to know a little bit about the sport of "sculling"-or competitive rowing. Nicolas Cage stars as the real-life Ned Hanlan, who at the turn of the century was Canada's foremost sculling champ. A wild, uncontrollable youth, Hanlan is "adopted" by a gambler named Bill (David Naughton), who promotes the boy on the sculling circuit for his own monetary gain. Ruthlessly businessman Knox (Christopher Plummer) assumes control of Hanlan's career, but when Ned discovers just how ruthless Knox can be, he casts his lot with the first honest man he's met, inventor-speculator Walter (Sean Sullivan). Hanlan's professional success is capped by his marriage to Margaret (Cynthia Dale), Knox's previously unattainable niece. A rock & roll singer searches for eternal life in this animated musical fantasy set in a post-nuclear dystopia. Similar to the earlier Heavy Metal (1981) in tone, this film attempts to incorporate mythical themes and mutant beings with music by Cheap Trick, Deborah Harry, Iggy Pop, and other popular acts of the time, with mixed success. Northern Ontario is the setting for this compact suspenser. Dominic Hogan plays Fred, a psychotic would-be entrepreneur who hopes to convince his wife Janet (Gay Rowan) to invest in a shady land deal. The wife refuses, and the couple continue their violent argument while driving through the Ontario backwoods. When their car crashes, Janet is seriously injured, but Fred leaves the scene, hoping that his wife won't last the night.
