The directorial debut from Highlander screenwriter Gregory Widen stars Christopher Walken as the angel Gabriel, who, fed up with God giving all of his attention to humans, decides to stage a sort of coup. With plans of killing all of the good angels, Gabriel decides to enlist the help of a recently deceased and inhumanly malevolent army general. In order to prevent Gabriel from obtaining the help of the vicious Korean War vet, good angel Simon (Eric Stoltz) stashes the general's soul in an unsuspecting young Native American girl named Mary (Moriah Snyder). As Gabriel gets closer to finding Mary, an ex-seminary-student-turned-cop and a school teacher, played by Elias Koteas and Virginia Madsen, team together to protect her. Meanwhile, Satan (Viggo Mortensen) enters into the mix, concerned over the implications the heavenly war may have on his dominion. Synopsis of The Prophecy

    There is one reason to watch this film, that stands above all. And I hate to even write it here for fear of spoiling the joy its surprise brings, so I won't. But take a look at the cast list. There is a name there that when released, no one recognized. It is his performance that put this movie on my shelf, that made me pick this moving out at the video store time and time again when perusing with friends. It’s worth the two hours for this scene alone. And if you are like me, you will enjoy the rest of it as well. This movie has many great attributes. The premise is intriguing. The presentation, back story, and new perspective of an ancient topic: Angels is excellent. So many great lines. The actors really deliver, you can tell the angels without any visual cues because of the great acting. The only negative comment I might make is that the locations the film was shot in really detract from the grand scale that is sold by every other aspect of the film and shrinks the film a bit.

    Christopher Walken is SO DIMENTED....as in almost all of his roles, he is superb in this flic, too ! Innovative and suprisingly fresh story - Walken is surrounded by a great cast. This movie is not scary, but rather an interpretive essay on what might have happened when the angels split in Heaven - and hearing each side to the break-up. Walken is still deviously funny in this film, and as in all his films, he portrays a whacko so brilliantly ! Definitely worth a watch....

    Took me a while to rate this but I decided to give it a seven because some of the parts dragged. Otherwise this is a great movie for many reasons. The script and story is excellent. You never know what is going to happen next and the characters dialog makes it more then watchable. Plus what is the icing on the cake is that two of my favorite actors are in it in Christopher Walken and Viggo Mortenson. A very well recommended religious horror movie, that shouldn't be missed by horror fans.
