... And God Spoke (1994)
Member Rating:
And God Spoke is an occasionally gut-funny spoof of low-budget moviemaking. Producer Steve Rappaport and director Michael Riley have been given carte blanche to make a multimillion-dollar epic based on the Old Testament. One day into production, they blow their budget and are forced to cut corners with a scythe. Rappaport and Riley must now scout about for cheap locations in the LA area, and make do with whatever stars they can afford. The funniest sequences involve Soupy Sales, who has been cast as Moses, crepe beard and all. Lou Ferrigno, Eve Plumb, and film critic Michael Medved (co-author of The 50 Worst Movies of All Time) also have significant cameos in this likeable effort. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

So here's the idea for this movie. See there are these two guys who make the worst movie ever, only they don't know it. And they have these cheezey sets and third rate people like Soupy Sales and Lou Ferrigno so we don't have to pay them a whole lot. Of course it turns out okay in the end because it becomes a cult hit as a comedy, even thought they meant it to be serious. No. The concept does not really work. Cheap movies are, well cheap and unless they have really clever dialog, super acting or fascinating camera work (no, no and no), they stay in that huge catergory of stuff not much worth looking at. There are a few mild smiles to be won here- the Naked Nijas, the caterer who does concept catering and such, but nothing more. If you want to see a _good movie about the so-bad-it-is-good show biz effort, check out the Producers.

One joke movie . . . got it a few minutes in. It's OK . . . but it became a bit tedious to wade through.

Murphy's Law meets the B-film industry. Soupy Sales soars above the cast in this festival of bellylaughs. It is worth watching to see Moses coming down the mountain with the Ten Commandments and a six pack of Coke! God will forgive them for their irreverence. A funny film.
