The characters were real & believable. Seeing street people, hookers & drug addicts in a film can, & usually does, come out as "over the top." But "Running Out of Time" gives just enough edge to the characters (including their language) that makes it real & not too much (as American films tend to do, so that it looks like all they do is swear & grab each other). The acting is strong & this is marvelous since the two lead female prostitutes were unknowns at the time. Carmelo Gomez is, as always, fantastic & seeing Javier Bardem as the sordid junkie, Lisardo was an eye-opener as he was so good you forgot about how handsome he is! The only role that seemed forced was that of the police officer played by Karra Elejalde. While Elejalde's acting was as good as ever, the role seemed very stereotyped and a bit campy & unbelievable. I've given the film 4 stars because the plot is very exciting, the characters are very interesting and it keeps you involved from start to finish.
