Member Rating:
The debut feature from director Daisy von Scherler Mayer, Party Girl pretty much cemented Parker Posey's status as the indie-film "it girl" of the 1990s. Posey stars as Mary, a fun-loving and irresponsible twentysomething New Yorker who prefers throwing bashes at her loft to pay the rent over getting a real job. But when one of her shindigs gets broken up by the cops, Mary lands in the slammer and is forced to enlist the help of her librarian godmother, Judy (Sasha von Scherler, the director's mother). In order to prove that she's not the layabout she seems to be, Mary begins working at the library with Judy. Party Girl was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival and was later turned into a short-lived Fox sitcom. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

Parker Posey is the most underrated actress of our time. I love this movie, it makes me happy every time I see it.

First fell in love with this movie because of Parker Posey and her hilarious club-kid at the library performance. It is weird and arty, but having lived around many of these sorts of people in the 90's and spending way too much time in clubs, I can tell you it isn't far off. Her revelation one night that she is destined to be a librarian while figuring out the Dewey Decimal System and dancing around the card catalogs is terrific. Probably the only part that could have been skipped is the two falafel vendors rivalry, one of the falafel vendors seems to have stepped out of an IKEA ad or maybe were the dancers during Mike Meyers "Sprockets" skits. Great, fun movie.
