Sadly, this film is far too messy to be enjoyable. Part of the cause of this may be the fact that Wajda and his co-screenwriter culled material from several short stories, in addition to several poems. The result is a mess. And I have a feeling that the few brilliant moments of dialogue that do appear on the screen are, in all liklihood, pulled from the poetry. And perhaps the biggest contributor to the film being a mess is that it is littered with instances of gross overacting - overacting that is so severe it makes you wonder how Wajda allowed it. I wouldn't even recommend this for a single viewing.

This is an abominable movie. It is grossly dramatic, the dialog is stupendously intellectual (They are struggling for their lives and bemoaning the inadequacies of poetry). Make me puke. This movie makes no sense and will exterminate you with boredom.
