Back in the day The Hallmark Hall Of Fame movies were something to look forward to during the TV season. This film was no exception. The opening scenes of James Garner tying his fishing boat to the dock, talking to the dog and walking up the path to his house with a huge veranda lead to a great story. He is a widower and retired judge who just wishes to be left alone in this small Georgia town. Instead he is drawn in to confront both problems of the son of one boyhood friend and to battle the U S Government's attempts to bestow the Medal Of Honor on another long lost friend. This was an excellent feel good movie with an outstanding cast and script. Ruby Dee says it all with the line "Men are boys until they die".
