While the personal details of the lives of the characters may have been altered (I don't know, I wasn't there), the political and historical FACTS (Mr. P.) are absolutely true. Gerry & his father Guiseppe were innocent, and Guiseppe died in an English prison after the real bombers had been captured. It is a very accurate and typical portrayal of the way the Irish are treated by Britain. The movie is by no means "pro-IRA" (in fact, most of Sheridan's films portray the IRA in a fairly negative light), but it is absolutely pro-justice!

Daniel Day-Lewis was riveting in his portrayal of an innocent man in 1970's London. This is a must-see for anyone who wants to see what it is like to be persecuted because of your national citizenship.

This was a very good performance by day-lewis. The story was intense to the end. This was also a good movie on police-civilian interaction gone awry.
