I have heard and read other reviews and was planning on seeing an unrealistic movie of the end of the world. What I saw stuck me in a way I hadn't planned on. The special effects may have not been up-to-date and perhaps the acting was to be desired, but I thought the message was more profound than I had heard. It especially struck me since 9/11 when everyone said "it can't happen here not to us" such as said in the movie. Who could think such a horrific thing could happen in America? I think there was a deeper lesson to be learned from this movie than simply what is on the surface and maybe we are learning it. We are not immune to anything. Just because we think we are safe doesn't mean we are. Simplistic, but true.

If you are considering this movie as an action-packed disaster thriller, you will be disappointed. If you are expecting state of the art special effects, you will be disappointed (this was made 25 years ago for TV). If you are looking for polished acting by Hollywood A-list actors, you will be disappointed (this movied relied heavily on local talent). If you want a fairly realistic view of what life would be like after a nuclear holocaust, then this movie is worth your consideration. But don't expect happy endings.
