I had just seen Daughter of the Regiment on stage a couple of weeks before and the lead Soparano was FABULOUS..{As was the lead tenor}..I saw that Blockbuster had one on DVD so I ordered It...Granted Beverly Sills is a great soprano but I was disapointed in this rendition..My opinion is the "daughter" should be a younger girl..Not someone in their 40's..etc..To me it lost alot of it's appeal, expecially after seeing the younger soprano {can't remember her name off hand} that had done the role weeks before..If your a fan of Ms. Sills then by all means rent this DVD..

I certainly understand Lynn S.'s desire to see a younger soprano in the lead role. Beverly Sills is a little long in tooth for this role. However, although near the end of her career, she was still vocally in her prime at the time of this production(1974.) I think anyone who enjoys the bel canto repertoire will find this DVD satisfying.
