Michael Schultz directed this deeply felt recollection of adolescent life on Chicago's near North Side in 1964. Like American Graffiti, Cooley High deals with girl, school, and police troubles as a group of high-school seniors prepare for post-high-school life. The chums are Glynn Turman as "Preach," who loves to read poetry and history and wants to become a Hollywood screenwriter, but who has the worst grades in the school; and Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs as Cochise, the high-school basketball star and suave lady-killer. Preach has to contend with love problems in the form of Brenda (Cynthia Davis), school problems with emphatic teacher Mr. Mason (Garrett Morris), and law problems with street toughs Stone (Shermann Smith) and Robert (Norman Gibson). ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Cooley High is the greateast one of Chicago's very own. You can see a peace of The North Side of Town History, which now has been remodifed. An Excellent Movie.

I loved this movie. I grew up in Chicago and can identify with the characters in this movie. As a matter of fact, one of the actresses was a former co-worker and carpool member of mine when we worked for Illinois Bell. This reminded me of the trials and tribulations of high school in Chicago. The sneaky and underhanded adventures our parents never found out about. The great times with girlfriends and making out, stupidly experimenting with alcohol and marijuana, and other wild times as a teenager. Great music, house parties, el trains, etc. all brings back great memories. The time period in this movie was a little before my time. I was only two years old in 1964, but the fun later on was still the same. This is excellent entertainment and the scenes filmed in Chicago shows an outstanding profile of the not-so-glamorous parts of the city. If you haven't seen this movie, see it!
