A mad international criminal, Von Housen (Bela Lugosi) -- who fancies himself a vampire (and sleeps in a coffin), and has plans to take over the world -- arrives in England. Over the next six weeks a dozen young women disappear without a trace, and Scotland Yard is certain that Von Housen, whatever else he may be planning, is behind these crimes. The scientist proceeds to put his plan to rule the world into operation, having a very dangerous robot shipped to his secret laboratory -- but thanks to a comic mix-up in shipping labels, the robot is delivered instead to the nearly bankrupt shop owned by Mrs. Riley (Arthur Lucan), a conniving old Irish char woman. Von Housen retrieves the robot by remote control, but Mrs. Riley is brought along for the ride, and she proceeds to disrupt his plans for world domination. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi

If I could give this a minus 5, I would. I like 1950s horror and sci fi films so I selected this one. What a mistake that was. This is a 1952 British unfunny comedy. The movie is not very long but it took me several days to watch because I couldn't stomach it for too long. It is so annoying.

Ok this had the makings of a good black and white classic horror but then it fell short. The picture was clear and it was good to see Bela in a role he could sink his teeth into (excuse the pun). Of course his acting can be over the top at times but hey that is Bela. BUT the movie could have done without (in my opinion) with the Irish char woman Mrs. Riley. What through me off was the song and dance routine in her shop. I fast forwarded through that and with "her" over the top acting I just stopped the movie and returned it to the package. So I don't know how it ended. I felt like I was watching two movies snipped together.....I mean I felt like I was watching a Bela movie but there were some modern scenes added to it. Very strange. Although Bela was starring in this movie it was a wasted rental for me. ~ Susan L.
