Charlton Heston Presents the Bible: Genesis (1993)

Charlton Heston Presents the Bible: Genesis (1993)
Member Rating:
This first of four volumes features acclaimed actor and two-time National Rifle Association president Charlton Heston telling the Bible story about the beginning of earth, the animals, and humanity, from an ancient amphitheater in Israel. Heston sees the series as providing a taste of the ancient tradition of oral storytelling, which is the way many of the Bible stories were originally passed down. In addition to footage from Israel, highlights include a musical score by Academy Award-winning composer Leonard Rosenman and Genesis portrayed by great painters. Both a priest and a rabbi have officially blessed the video production. The other volumes in the set include: Charlton Heston Presents the Bible: The Story of Moses, Charlton Heston Presents the Bible: Jesus of Nazareth, and Charlton Heston Presents the Bible: The Passion. ~ Steve Blackburn, Rovi

I love Charlton Heston, but was disappointed in this movie as a Christian. I enjoyed the approach taken by the directors: liked seeing the different types of art work, loved the storytelling aspect, and seeing the current-day Holy Land in the background. However, a few comments by Charlton have turned me away from watching the remaining parts of the series. When talking of the battle of Jericho Charlton states that the walls were probably brought down by an earthquake, dimishing the power of God. That was not the only comment that strayed away from the true dipiction of the Bible, so watcher be cautious.

This is a well done narration by Charleton Heston. His heart is in his words as he leads you through Genesis. I am glad to have seen this and am immediately going to see the other 3 parts to this series. You will be glad you saw this. It is a quiet time documentary and very much to be enjoyed with family or friends who wish to better understand the beginning time between man and our Creator. It is not a fast themed adventure by any means, it is just simply to be enjoyed calmly and with the heart.
