This film is a classic love drama that moves from the turn of the century through to WW2. Sad on one occasion because of human selfish interference which leads to an unrequited love, but eventually uplifting because of lessons learned of living life to the full and falling in love even while in the midst of a war. I've always watched this film on my own off the tv, but look forward to watching it kleenex in hand on dvd with my girlfriend.
