An annoying experience. Very good in spots, especially the wonderful opening bank robbery. But often slow-moving and dull, with a climax that made no sense to me at all.

When Melville is good, his films are well worth the subtitles. This is not one of those. And the cheesy train/helicopter sequence harkens back to the Buck Rogers spaceship on a visible string. Catherine Deneuve is the best face on film, ever....but not much else about this crime film is worth it. Too bad this was Melville's final effort.
