Pop icon Madonna returns to the director's seat for the first time since her 2008 feature debut, Filth and Wisdom, for this ambitious romance detailing one lonely woman's obsession with the relationship between King Edward VIII (James D'Arcy) and American divorcée Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough). To Wally Winthrop (Abbie Cornish), no act of devotion in history is more romantic than King Edward VIII abdicating the throne to be with his one true love. But the deeper Wally dives into the background of this controversial love affair, the more apparent it becomes that their relationship was no bed of roses. Now, as each new discovery paints an increasingly dire picture for the once-happy couple, Wally begins to grow disillusioned about the prospect of true love. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Just exquisite, the period, costumes and the cast were just great to look at and I have to agree with Ann C ( a members review) I would rather have seen more of the Windsors myself or another movie w/ just W.E. - Madonna did a great job as Director. My fave line in movie was Wallis to Wally " Get a Life ! " so right-on.

Much as I dislike ANYTHING Madonna does, I was in for a pleasant surprise with this elegant film. Great story, great acting, especially by Andrea Riseborough who seemed to embody the infamous Wallace Simpson. Though I was frustrated not knowing how much of this story is fact, how much fiction, I have never seen such a riveting, spellbinding portrayal of W.S. In this film, fact or fiction, I could see for the first time what attracted Edward.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this movie. I am a huge fan of period movies and this one did not disappoint me. The costumes and setings alone make this movie worth watching.
