A wonderful movie. My Mother and Aunt arrived here as World War II refugee immigrants. I watched this film with my Mother and she cried, that's how moved she was by the immigrant experience depicted here and which she related to perfectly. It mattered not to her whether the immigrant was legal or not. To her an immigrant is an immigrant, a human being, period, who should be treated like a human being. This is a terrific film that captures the immigrant experience. However legal or illegal the immigrant might be, any person who is cold and indifferent to that experience, should remember that their grandparents were once probably immigrants themselves, and pretty much experienced that which was depicted in this film. If it wasn't for the travails of your immgrant grand parents you probably wouldn't be benefitting today from the good that America can offer.

A Better Life offers a compelling, heart-warming family drama and terrific acting, especially Demian Bichir as the devoted father and illegal immigrant. Whatever your opinion on illegal immigration is, I don't think this film will change your views. But if you enjoy a great story with superior performances, you should check this out. (Of course if your mind is closed tight, watch Transformers.)

An eye-opening account about a hard-working father here illegally and his american born adolescent son who's wish for a better life is painfully stolen from him when he misplaces his trust is another migrant who'd intially showed him kindness. You root for the father who's a good and honest man to prevail in all he hopes for -
