The synopsis here is misleading. Bridge's mission has nothing to do with D-day. The actual mission is to attack a fictional Nazi ship maintenance dock on the French coast, using a bomb-laden minesweeper to crash into the dock and detonate after everyone on board has gotten off. The mine sweeper is accompanied by 4 smaller launches transporting the commandos who are to disable the targets defenses. The damage pictured from the explosion is out of all proportion to the power of the actual warhead the boat was carrying, and the acting by just about everyone is equally unconvincing. A film mainly for die-hard Lloyd Bridges fans.

This was one of the most boring WWII movies I have ever seen. When you combine that with Lloyd Bridge's over-the-top, dramatic over-acting, you wind up with a movie you wouldn't want to see twice. Bridge's over-acting is so bad that it almost seems like he is trying to turn the thing into a comedy. The plot is predictable. Special effects not worth mentioning. The main character doesn't really come off as believable or likable. There is no real suspense at all and the performances just fall flat. It almost bad enough to make you want to side with the Nazis.

The description of Attack On The Iron Coast is incorrect. This movie had nothing to do with the D Day invasion of Normandy. The movie is based on a commando raid on the French city of St. Nazaire called Operation Chariot. This is a low budget movie that should only be watched by persons who must see every movie made about WWII. The models used in this film were really poor for a 1968 color film. This is a bad movie. They attempted to add some drama by creating friction between Lloyd Bridges and Andrew Keir but it did not ring true. Lloyd Bridges must have appeared in at least 25 different WWII movies and TV shows throughout his career. Rent Sahara or A Walk In The Sun Skip this one.
