The descendants of two 19th century spiritual sisters struggle to maintain their enduring bond by exploring their ancestral connection in modern-day Shanghai.     Hard to stay awake through the entire movie. Maybe if I'd read the book... I normally am OK with chick flicks, but this one, no.

    Wonderful movie. I'm rating the film and not how well it conforms to the book. Very interesting look into old Chinese culture along with a story about friendship that transcends borders.

    This movie did not do justice to the book. I was disappointed as the depth of love between these two women and the hardships they endured was not accurately protraited and did not cross over in this movie. I guess it would have made the movie way to long. Nor did I get why they tried to put the twist of connecting it to present times. If you are a reader, read the book. It is a beautiful story and won't disappoint you.
