Movie was ok. The only disappointing thing is that this film was originally filmed in Cantonese. This DVD only has Mandarin and English audio tracks. I prefer to watch movies in their original language with subtitles.

China has really come along in movies and they are trying to cash in on the Wushu craze that the world is getting into. Champions attempts to Westernize the Chinese cinema, and it appears a walk in the right direction. Hong Kong action appears to be the model, as the movie uses Hong Kong big shot, Yu Rong-Guang as the Sifu for the nationalistic Wushu school. Dickey Cheung gives his best Jackie Chan impression as he overacts and does some eye popping martial arts. Ever wonder what happened to the kid in Jet Li's "My Father's a Hero" ? Well he's all grown up in this movie as he plays Dickey Cheung's best friend. You may not remember his name, Xie Miao, but his performance in both movies is remarkable. This movie is cheezy, somewhat poorly edited, overacted, too long and very slanted towards PRC style patriotism, but the fight scenes are pretty good, and the climatic fight scene is incredible as the all out battle royal is fun to watch. Recommended.
