A great overview of whaling in America. This video essentially has three plotlines: the story of the ESSEX, sunk by a whale; the life and times of Herman Melville; and the in-depth story of how whaling came to be the number one industry of the early 19th century. Great if you enjoy American history or maritime stories.

A great deal of the narration is lifted directly from Nathaniel Philbrick's In the Heart of the Sea. Only 120 minutes? It seemed much longer.

The story of whaling in America. A fully in depth movie that is truly fascinating. Rent it today. Great movie, well done documentary about whales.
