I have tried to force myself to like this series, because I loved "SG1" and "Atlantis", but I just can't. We all get it - the producers are trying to create a character-based show, with edgier, flawed characters. The problem is - IT DOESN'T WORK. TV has proven this concept CAN work (you can love a TV show based on "human" characters, with their own issues and problems to deal with) - just try watching "LOST". But the problems with "Stargate Universe" are two-fold: there is nothing about these characters that makes the viewers WANT to like them, and there is nothing interesting in the plot to make up for the poor characters. In short, this series is bordering on ruining the "Stargate" franchise.
For myself personally who loved the original and Atlantis so much that I have all 15 seasons on DVD, and TRULY wanted to like this one, this new series is by no means "something new" or "something edgier", It is in fact a hurriedly slapped together effort to amend the botched decision to cancel Atlantis by quickly putting something on that could hopefully gain life on the coat-tails of the popular drama of Battlestar Gallactica. Instead we are left with an episode of a chair of the "Ancients" that we can't explore because we have to take time for a lez reunion, my girlfriend is a stripper and I am going to pound on you for "boffing" my wife. That is called soap opera at best, smut at worst, but definitely not the feeble "edgier" explanation we are offerred as justification.Anderson, Tapping and Shanks should be ashamed of themselves for participating in this disgrace!
