Erasing David (2009)

Erasing David (2009)
Member Rating:
Filmmaker David Bond explores the practical issues of privacy in a world of prying electronic eyes in this documentary. As the public and private sectors stockpile more data on ordinary citizens and a growing number of people are willing to share the details of their lives on line, how secure is an average individual? Bond decided to find out -- he opted to "disappear" for a month, and hired a detective firm to find him. The detectives had nothing to go on but Bond's name, but before long they knew where he lived, where his father lived, that his wife was pregnant and could easily track Bond to most of his hiding places as he struggled to outsmart them. Erasing David exposes the realities of our culture of surveillance as well as Bond's mounting anxieties as he learns how few secrets he (and most people like him) truly have. Erasing David received its North American premiere at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A 3 for me just means watchable. It was a very good plot with only okay execution. David who is trying to erase himself is pretty aimless and parinoid the whole time. And the places he goes i think i could have found him. The only thing that saves this film is finding out all the ways our personal and family information is out there for all to see. And gives good tips on how to protect yourself. Like i said good movie to watch once.

A cautionary tale that reminds us that technology can be both a dream and a nightmare. I didn't believe for a minute that this was a true story, but its message was still important. Privacy is all but gone and Big Brother lives; still, we act as if all is well and even feed into the hands of those who use the technology we adore to track, catalog and easily reference us.

very interesting. i work in the skip tracing industry and most people don't realize how much info is actually available to them. most of the film is pretty basic (opting out etc) and he made so many classic mistakes it was not hard to find him. you could see him getting more and more paranoid and i think if you (generic you) spend too much time on the concept you will drive yourself crazy. big brother is definitely out there watching us.
