As a Sci Fi fan I hunger for a good satisfying viewing, and this Series more than met my needs.
More dramatic than the previous Star Gate series.
also more on the vein of the Battlestar Galactic series...I liked this very much,...interesting characters, sorta "Lost in Space" upgraded x 10,.. a more dangerous Doc Smith (in Doc Rush).....liked all the episodes so far.... waiting for ..U guessed it ..more...
If you're expecting another SG1 or SGA series, prepare to be sorely disappointed. I am a huge fan of both of those and although I knew from trailers that SGU would be somewhat different, I really didn't understand just how much. This series focuses heavily on the individual characters, their relationships, power struggles, personal issues, etc after being put in the situation they're in. The styling of the show is almost identical to that of Galactica, which is obviously nothing like the previous SG series. However, I still gave this series a 2.5 star rating because I watched all three discs and afterward I had to admit to myself that even though it was kind of ripping off the SG name for a convenient backstory, the show wasnât all that bad.
first off i have to qualify myself, i am a Battlestar Galactica fan...
i wasn't expecting much from this stargate spinoff but the early plot of the pilot (dics 1) caught my interest.
recognized a lot of battlestar elements: the tracking of space vessels thru the frame; an obsessive arrogant scientist that screws em over; full development of flawed 3D characters; ensemble cast thrown into desperate situation.
i was so impressed with their flight thru atmosphere of gas giant that i just have to see the rest of the season.
contrary to an earlier review, the start is what makes this show worth watching
now, i'm not expecting em to continue to match the great start or come close to the writing of the 'now classic' Battlestar Galactica series but hopefully they can keep it going for awhile longer.
