GREAT FILM! I'VE READ A FEW BOOKS WITH MUCH MORE DETAIL OF HIS LIFE. HE WROTE MANY GREAT/GOOD SONGS IM 70, THE YOUNGER PEOPLE SHOULD READ & STUDY JOHNNY MERCER. TRIP TO HIS GRAVE SITE IS WORTH IT. SAVANNAH GA.
I love Johnnie Mercer so it was a treat to find this documentary. Not too long on biography but rich in the music that made this man famous and beloved. Don't bother with the second disc as it's just some left over interview footage and some additional musical numbers (nothing special). And why Clint Eastwood's young daughter is shown singing the title song in a recording studio is a mystery other than her daddy obviously wanted her to be seen. Her appearance is unfortunate as she's only about 12 and clearly not a professional singer. But overlooking that small imperfection, it's a great watch.
VERY long wait but worth it. Nostalgic journey back to GOOD listening ala Carmichael, Arlen, Sinatra, Clooney, Crosby, Teagarden, Nat cole, etc, etc, etc. Showcases the brilliant (almost incredible) talents of Mercer while tossing in just a smidgen of bio. Not to be missed if you are a fan of the music of sweetness, romance and joyfulness. I've located Disc One on Amazon and am buying it brand new; it's one you will want to watch/listen to again and again.
