While Bobby's father and siblings resolve to stand by him despite their opposition to his startling revelation, his mother Mary (Sigourney Weaver) believes that her son is committing a sin, and encourages him to change his ways with the help of the church. Despondent over his experiences in the church, Bobby decides that his best option is to move out of the family home, all the while hoping that his mother will find a means of accepting him for who he is. But Mary is staunch in her position, and when Bobby realizes he'll never live up to his mother's expectations he takes his own life. Devastated, Mary seeks consolation from her pastor but fails to find the answers she's looking for. In time, Mary begins a dialogue with the gay community, and discovers that sometimes support can come from the places we least expect. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Having grown up both in a Christian home and gay ( in the closet until my 20's ) I 100% related to this movie. About 1/2 way through, my throat closed up from crying so much. Sigourney Weaver gave a steller performance as the Mom as well as the rest of the staff. Based on a true story, Young Bobby comes out to his Christian parents and they end up driving him to suicide. After his death, his mom is so heartbroken, she takes that pain and eventually turns it into action for gay and lesbian youth. I think everyone should watch this movie, especially those who are prejudice towards gay people. Oh and have lots of tissues ready.

This was an excellent movie! Sigourney Weaver, as always, was great! The storyline had me in tears throughout the movie because the senseless suicide of a very young man happens for real all too often.

This was a typical "Lifetime" production...sort of low budget. But the story and the acting were superb. It breaks your heart to see the Mom (Sigourney Weaver) turn her back on her very troubled son. After his suicide, she realizes how wrong she was, but it's too little, too late. Very moving story.
