I grew up with these movies and I loved them. I haven't seen them in very long time, but I am excited to sit down and watch them with my son.
I remember we rented them from the town drug store in the old disk format. They looked like the old floppy computer disks but they were the size of a record. Does anyone else remember this format? It didn't take off so I only remember it pre-VHS for a few years.
Anyhow, If you love old 80's movies and you respect "real" fairy tales (not to mention Bernadette Peters!) you should take the chance and watch this!
I thought this "funny" video would be great for my 6 year old, but I was mistaken. I usually preview movies that she has not seen and I am glad I did. I felt the movie was very inappropriate for kids. During the first story, the Frog Prince, when the princess kisses the frog on her pillow and he transforms into a frog - he is not wearing clothes, since he was not wearing clothes when he was a frog. Then the king comes in to find them and assumptions are made and the price arreated. I am sure my daughter would have asked why he was getting in trouble and I don't know what kind of explanation I could have come up with. I did not think the idea of a naked prince in a princess' bed was appropriate - I can just imagine what her teacher would think if she repeated the story at school. I'm glad I previewed it first.
