In 1981, the United Nations established September 21 as the International Day of Peace, a holiday created to encourage the nations of the world to reject violence and war as means of resolving their differences. Jeremy Gilley is an actor and peace activist who in 1999 created the organization Peace One Day with the goal of promoting non-violence around the world and taking the International Day of Peace to the next level -- instead of using the day to promote a noble ideal, Gilley wants the warring nations of the world to agree to a 24 hour cease fire each year on September 21, making it a literal day of peace. While nearly everyone agrees that Gilley's idea is fine in principle, getting the leaders of the world's most powerful countries to sign on to the reality of a day of peace (especially those who believe they are fighting for a just cause) is another matter. The Day After Peace is a documentary directed by Gilley about his efforts to establish a proper observance of the International Day of Peace and the practical necessity of nurturing a culture of non-violence. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
