This is an attempt at an art film or a Sundance Channel or Kevin Smith film. It mostly fails even though there's a few amusing scenes.
Biggest problem is the lead actor. He's bad. The film might work with more takes and coverage and not him.
Maybe some can see past the low budget flaws and find a decent dark comedy, many won't.
Haters under the delusion they could make a better film couldn't. Their films would be worse. Since someone saw fit to give this a major release. Doesn't make this film any better, just a point of reference.
The title is all wrong too. Simply "Opie" would have worked better.
DVD extras are a mediocre director's commentary and more engaging actress commentary.
Not a 100% percent bad film but mostly a misfire. But hey, even Stanley Kubrick screwed up on his first couple films.
