Based on the novella by Harlan Ellison, A Boy and His Dog is set in a post-apocalyptic future where canned goods are used as currency and where entertainment often consists of old porn reels. Vic (Don Johnson) is a violent, illiterate scavenger, principally interested in getting laid. He communicates telepathically with his deceptively cute-looking dog Blood (voiced by Tim McIntire); Vic finds food for Blood, while Blood sniffs out girls for Vic. One of these girls is the sexy Quilla June (Susanne Benton), who, unbeknownst to Vic is a spy for an underground society, headed by a Mr. Craddock (Jason Robards Jr.). This subterranean civilization needs a human "sperm bank" to stay alive, and the oversexed Vic fills the bill. Produced by character actor Alvy Moore (Mr. Kimball of TV's Green Acres), A Boy and His Dog was written and directed by another veteran actor, L.Q. Jones. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Hard to believe that I first saw this movie 33 years ago! Still apt today. Some things never change. I think I enjoyed watching it now more than the first time. I wonder if George Bush has seen it?

Absolutely great, original movie. No, it doesn't have todays special effects...duh...it was made in 1975!! I don't know about the transfer to dvd ( I have it on tape from 1982) but I hope you can find some other way to watch it if the dvd is that bad. As for the feminist Lisa E.'s review...what else would you expect from her ilk. She will refuse to like anything that doesn't make the woman into some sort of fantasy super-woman and I'm sure she would have absolutely loved the ending had it been a man and not a woman. This movie is a classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the all time best post apocalyptics around. This is one of my all time favorite movies. Luckily I had never seen Don Johnson or Miami Vice before I saw this because I otherwise may have never seen this great movie.
