Synopsis of The Luckiest Man
The one-time leader of the Hong Kong Mah Jong industry sparks a bitter battle of greed among his family when he brings home his long lost love child and attempts to make up for lost time in this comedy from actor-turned-director Lam Tze Chung (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle). Back in the 1950s, Mr. Ho was the "King of Gambling." A self-made millionaire who became an institution onto himself, Mr. Ho married three times, during which he fathered two sons and a daughter. These days Mr. Ho's family lives in harmony, or at least that's the image they project to outsiders. When Mr. Ho brings home Ah Fai, the child he's never known, the cracks in his selfish family's careful façade finally begin to show. Could it be that Ah Fai genuinely loves Mr. Ho for something other his sizable bank account? As Mr. Ho and Ah Fai do their best to get acquainted after so many years apart, the other family members start to fear that the boy will cut in on their pay day and scheme to kick him out before the money train leaves the station. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
