The film is subtitled. If that is not a problem for the viewer, it is a decent mystery with some interesting twists. The geographic views I felt added to the dark story line.

The movie follows the book closely and both show a very depressing Iceland in winter. The story line is fascinating as it traces a current murder back to its roots over 30 years earlier. I found it engrossing despite having read the book first but can understand that if you're not used to subtitles and the dark, bleak scenery it might seem like an especially depressing film. Thought the acting was well done and it also gave some insight into life in Iceland where, apparently, drug and alcohol use are serious problems.

excellent movie- dark and brooding with the Icelandic location echoing the cold bleakness of the story. not for featherheads who can't read subtitles and watch a movie at the same time ( or walk and chew gum).
