In this season, Les is stalked by a jaguar in the amazon, is stranded on the ice in Labrador (necessitating rescue by helicopter), and traps (and eats) scorpions in the Kalahari Desert. He lets us know that when you are alone in the middle of nowhere, stuff happens. His fishing comes up empty, he almost burns his shelter down, he pilfers meat from his sled dogs, and yet he records it with his cameras and shows it all to us. Other shows might edit out some of these sequences, but this show is absolutely faithful in capturing the entire experience of solitary survival, warts and all. Bravo to a painfully honest, groundbreaking, and educational series.
