Compelling! I first saw this film nearly 30 years ago and never forgot the stories of the people whose lives were directly affected and intertwined by WW2. All connected by music. These are true, compelling stories, made even more compelling by the music. Everything builds to the moving climax through Ravel's emotional "Bolero." This is a must-see film.

"Les uns et les autres" (aka Bolero, 1980) a film by Claude Lelouch is a 3 hour multi-storyline that spans 1930 to 1980 in Europe, including of course WW2 and the Nazi Genocide. Some characters and their descendants (sons, daughters) are played by the same actors. All the storylines come together in a final live multi-media performance of Bolero at the Eiffel Tower. M. Lelouch was trying to do something -- sometimes successfully, sometimes not -- that the little boys at the Cahiers du Cinema -- who hated his films -- could not even dream of. In their little boy dreams they all just wanted to be tough talking Humphrey Bogart. How juvenile. Lelouch dreamt something grander. And just seeing his attempt, is invigorating. There are parts that are dull and cliche, story arcs that shudder in comparison to more significant storylines, but there are also moments that stand with any in cinema. Can you tell I liked this film???
