Lawrence Kasdan's first directorial effort is a throwback to the early days of film noir. The scene is a beastly hot Florida coastal town, where naive attorney Ned (William Hurt) is entranced by the alluring Matty (Kathleen Turner in her film debut). Ned is manipulated into killing Matty's much older husband (Richard Crenna), the plan being that Ned's knowledge of legal matters will enable both conspirators to escape scott-free. This might have been the case, had not Matty been infinitely craftier than the cloddish Ned. Just when it seems as though the film has run out of plot twists, we're handed yet another surprise. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A must see if you like the film noir style, and even if you don't. The acting was campy for sure, but that contributed to the overall 'feel' of the movie. The hot, oppressive heat of Florida is something I know very well, and I thought this movie expressed the itchy and irritated mood everyone gets into in that kind of weather. Kathleen Turner was the perfect vamp; there has never been a better, sexier portrayal. William Hurt was perfect as the not overly bright lawyer who let his crotch dictate his every move. I kept guessing to the very end. Great music score too. Loved it!!! P.S. It might be a bit dated. In the modern land of super fast slash-em-trash-em blow-em-up movies, this one might seem slow. Get your self some popcorn and some rum and cokes and slow down and enjoy the fun.
