    This film was more genuine than one could hope for..I was aghast as to how young Tom Guiry looks..I saw him in U 571 and he looks exactly the same age... about 18 and he's 28, believe it or not..he was the whole film..of course the rest of the cast was window dressing except for of course Chaz..a terrific film that would move anyone and the biggest credit goes to the remarkable character that Tom Guiry managed to portray..4 stars for Tom Guiry!

    A mixed bag of a plot. Plot A is about gambling and cheating at it. Plot B is dealing with a mentally challenged young man. It was acted well and shows the frustration of dealing with a mentally troubled person.

    This is a terrific film. The inside, tricks of the trade of the gambler are depicted with such realism that I forgot I was watching a movie. Yonkers Joe, played to perfection by Chazz Palminteri can minipulate cards and dice to make himself win -- I would defy anyone to try and catch him. What's different about this story is Joe doesn't make a ton of money, he uses his skills to get by until something happens that drives his ambition. I wondered after seeing the movie, if I were ever a victim to such a con, because I didn't think these types of skilled gamblers would waste their time on small money, back room VFW type poker games. But why not? These are crooked characters who operate outside the law, but when performed and photographed with such honesty and meaning, I understood their motives and was drawn in by them. The story between Chazz and his son is truely moving. If you've ever played poker or shot craps, you should see this film.
