A sinister illusionist gets away with ghastly murders on-stage in this unique horror story. Though Montag the Magnificent (Ray Sager) appears to be eviscerating beautiful volunteers from the audience with railroad spikes, chainsaws, and punch presses, the girls always smile afterward and walk away unscathed, leading the adoring crowd to admire the magician's handiwork. However, each evening, those same women are found horribly murdered in similar fashions, leading a young couple to take interest in the case. Sherry Carson (Judy Cler) is fascinated with Montag's show and wants to feature his magic on her afternoon television program. Her boyfriend, Jack (Wayne Ratay), is a sports writer, but he decides to investigate the weird homicides that have plagued the city since Montag appeared. Eventually, it becomes clear that the magician is planning to commit mass murder by hypnotizing the audience of Sherry's TV show, and Jack has to act fast. But the evil Montag's magic has already warped the fabric of reality, and no outcome is certain. ~ Fred Beldin, Rovi

What kind likes this movie? The kind that enjoys seeing movies that they didn't get to see as a kid cause mom and dad said no or (like me) the one theater in my small, southern town would never show something like this but you still heard about it because somebody's cousin saw it in Shreveport and "man, was it sick, gross, nasty, cool"--pick your adjective that would appeal to you as a junior high school-aged male. And, I have to say, amid some really bad (some very, very bad) acting, a worse script, and hokey but gorey special effects, it was fun! It's sick, gross, nasty, and cool just like Bill Rutledge said. Just wish i had seen it at 13. It would have beat the hell out of "Love Story." That aside, it had an interesting idea that the the film just couldn't pull off. When I see a move like this, I always wonder, What kind of script would Bradbury, Mattheson or King have written for this? What would it have looked like had Craven or Carpenter shot it? Guess we'll never know.

This is at the top of my list of the WORST movies EVER MADE! Really, Really BAD acting and even worse script. The gore is cheesy and fake! Save yourself the torture.

Save yourself a rental. Stay away from this film! Nothing is explained, the acting (what acting?) is horrible, and the music is so annoying, I ended up watching half of the film with subtitles and the volume off! It was made in the 70's, but there are tons of horror made during that time and even before it that are more believable. If you want something in your face messed up and gory, might I suggest 'Cannibal Holocaust' or the original 'Dawn of the Dead?' Both are classics that are well done, bloody, and well acted.
