Battle Royale II and Yo-Yo Girl Cop director Kenta Fukusaku returns to the helm with this gruesome, over-the-top shocker concerning a picturesque resort overrun by a village of murderous marauders, and a mysterious killer whose weapon of choice is a particularly large - and sharp - pair of scissors. Shiyori (Nao Matsushita) is enjoying a particularly refreshing getaway when she discovers a cell phone warning her to get out of paradise as quickly as possible. Now, as the bloodthirsty locals set out to take her apart piece by piece, the terrified vacationer begins to recall just how it was that she and best friend Aiko (Ami Suzuki) ended up in this dire predicament in the first place. Time for reflection begins to run short, however, when a formidable villain appears sporting a pair of shears that would make even Edward Scissorhands cower in fear. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Wow, this is one of the best horror films to come out of Japan in a long time ! It features an original story, the largest cutting shears you've ever seen and a showdown between two girls that really mean business. While it's a horror film, it's also part thriller with enough plot twists to keep you in the dark as to who to trust and how the story will end. The story is told through two different viewpoints, each showing how two different nightmarish experiences are related to each other. It's unfortunate the producers didn't release a 3-D version as many scenes seemed to jump off the screen. And yes, from time to time, you may find yourself looking over your shoulder to make sure no one is behind you. The Japanese 5.1 audio option made very good use of surround sound. As for extras, there's a trailer for the movie and trailers for four other movies. Definitely recommended.
