Blue Mountains Magic (1998)
Member Rating:
Long regarded by those in the know as one of Australia's preeminent natural wonders, the Blue Mountains encompass vast canyons, towering peaks (including the famed Three Sisters formation), and thousands upon thousands of square miles of lush foliage. Naturalist and film producer Greg Grainger's documentary Blue Mountains Magic takes the audience on a detailed, visually sumptuous tour of this environment; the journey begins with a ride on a steam locomotive from Sydney into the said hills, and covers such spectacles as a Charlestone dance competition, "echoing" contests in the mountains and a tour of antiquated settlements in 1920s-era racecars. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Greg Grainger has created a documentary on the Blue Mountains of Australia that takes the viewer to parts of the region that few get to experience. In everything I've read or seen previously about the Blue Mountains, I've never encountered such a rich expression of the area as this documentary. Grainger has done an outstanding job of fully engaging the viewer with the spirit and physicality of this region of Australia. Beautiful photography. Grainger hosts the documentary with energy, creativity and joie de vivre.
