What Black Men Think (2007)
Member Rating:
Director Janks Morgan asks viewers to question everything they ever thought they know about black men in America with this documentary that aims to destroy the predominant myths, stereotypes, and misperceptions perpetuated in the media by examining how the government, the media, and special interest groups have formed a symbiotic relationship which permits them to marginalize black men in contemporary society. While the triumphs of the Civil Rights movement of the early-1960s led many African-Americans to hold out hope for a brighter, more informed future, the subsequent misinformation spread about black men in particular has prompted serious concern amongst such outspoken activists as Dr. Shelby Steele, Alvin Poussaint, and Dr. John MnWhorter - each of whom sit down to offer their unguarded opinions on the matter in a series of intimate and illuminating interviews. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This movie had me on the edge of my seat for over 90 minutes of hardcore black conservative talk. You get straight talk from the beginning to the end from many of the leading black conservatives in the country. Want to learn about whether there are more blacks in prison then in college? Watch this movie and you will learn. Want to understand how welfare replaced the black man in the household? Watch this movie. Nothing but straight talk without a chaser. I really enjoyed this movie but I know that for those of you who are liberal, this movie may make your head swell with all the facts.....

A thought-provoking documentary calling for society - particularly, black Americans - to think more critically about causes, effects, and solutions associated with a range of very serious political and social problems. I don't necessarily agree 100% with the filmmaker's approaches and/or conclusions on every issue, but I respect his commitment to the greater discussion. I particularly enjoyed Talaam Acey's spoken word piece.
