Worth checking out, slick story line for 1932. The greats of horror films, Lugosi is never boring in anything he is in...

By todays standards this is pretty hokey, but it does have some genuinely eerie moments and also some great photography.

This service, BBOnline, appears to be (although, who knows) providing the shoddy, public-domain DVD release of this film, White Zombie, a seminal early sound horror film. The other service, acronym NF, offers the vastly superior Roan Group release, whose image was meticulously cleaned and restored (as opposed to the dirty print used for this corner-cutting transfer). The buyers are NF are a lot more savvy than the buyers at BB. BB, since its inception in the 80s, has always seemed like a company captained by cinematic know-nothings. Their refusal, from the very beginning until now, to offer X- or NC-17-rated films smacks of moralistic, bureaucratic fuddy-duddiness. BB seems to, across the board, both in their stores and in their online service, offer the "lesser" versions of films with multiple DVD releases. It's no wonder their ship is sinking. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
