Where the Day Takes You (1992)

Where the Day Takes You (1992)
Member Rating:
Marc Rocco's gritty drama Where the Day Takes You stars Dermot Mulroney as King, a street-smart hustler who acts as a father figure to a motley collection of young runaways. Among the people in his sphere are the young self-destructive drug addict Greg (Sean Astin), self-hating gay prostitute Little J (Balthazar Getty), and newcomer Heather (Lara Flynn Boyle). The film is structured as a series of flashbacks triggered by King's conversations with a prison psychologist (Laura San Giacomo). Included in the impressive cast are such soon-to-be-famous names as Will Smith and Ricki Lake, and the already established Kyle MacLachlan, Christian Slater, and Alyssa Milano. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

I love LOVE this movie. The ending is what really grabs you and makes you think. I work at a group home for delinquents and have shown this film in anti-drug classes. It is a good group discussion for the teens.

I think I would have taken the characters more seriously if all the actors weren't so well known. There is a great story going on here, though. While it isn't one of the gritty types of movies that will stick with you and cause you to lose sleep like Requiem for a Dream, Kids, or Gardens of the night, its still effective with it's message.

This is one of the best movies EVER made. I can't believe that more people don't know about this movie. My Mom made me watch it when I was 15 and it is TERRIFYING! Now as an adult I see the impact this movie could have. I highly recommend it to ANYONE!
