Ok so the animation is 80's mixed with a few modern cgi moments. This is dragonlance for gosh sakes, finally. And they pretty much stick to the story we know and love. There was no changing it to a kids movie, no chopping character to make them cheesy. Weis and Hickman actually helped the screen writer translate this to animation. This movie, depending on how it does, will lead to an actual film of it. If your a fan of the books get it, if not just keep in mind its made more for fans of traditional pen and paper D&D than anything.

I read the first 3 books in this series as a kid, so I was interested to revisit this again. The storyline was really good and it was enjoyable to watch. If you're a fan of fantasy and dragons, I think you'll like it even if you haven't read them before. The only drawback in my mind was how they mixed CG and 2D cartoon images sometimes. That's been a really annoying trend in movies lately, but I understand the budget restrictions. I'd just rather see you do one or the other and do it well, don't mix the two. they don't blend well.

Bad animation, bad voice work, bad editing, bad CGI. This movie is just bad. The hand drawn animation is stiff at best and flip-book quality at worst, while the CGI looks like a late 90s video game, and the two don't mix in the slightest. The voices are not inspired and sound more like rehearsal readings. The editing is quite jumpy, with strange closeups that look to cover either missing or unfinished animation. I think the people who made this film really wanted to make something good, they just didn't.
